2011 Senate Bill 5014: Placing restrictions on defendants who represent themselves when questioning witnesses
Introduced by Sen. Scott White, (D-Seattle) (D) on January 10, 2011
To ask the state supreme court to establish procedures to avoid possible conflicts between a defendant’s right to represent him/herself in a criminal trial, and a victim’s right to be accorded due dignity and respect. The bill declares that such conflicts may arise when a pro se defendant (a defendant representing him/herself) questions a victim in court in a traumatizing manner.   Official Text and Analysis.
