Introduced by Rep. Phyllis Kenney, (D) (D) on January 14, 2008, this bill creates new standards for cosmetology apprenticeship programs. The act stipulates that enrollees in approved apprenticeship programs must receive a wage. Establishes new standards for administration and completion of a apprenticeship program.
Referred to the House Commerce & Labor Committee on January 14, 2008.
Substitute offered in the House on January 24, 2008, the required hours of training curriculum for an apprenticeship program is reduced from 3,000 to 2,000 for a cosmetologist; from 2,000 to 1,200 for a barber; from 2,000 to 800 for a manicurist; and from 2,000 to 800 for an esthetician. When an apprenticeship program makes changes to its program, information regarding the changes must be submitted to the DOL prior to making the changes rather than within 15 days of implementing the changes.
