2011 House Bill 1126: Concerning criminal street gangs

Authorizes the Department of Social and Health Services to establish a grant program available to local entities to curb involvement in and reduce harmful effects from criminal street gangs. This act makes ineligible for deferred dispositions juveniles who are charged with a firearm offense that is determined to be related to gang activity. This act creates a new Class C felony of criminal gang intimidation for one who threatens another with bodily injury because the person attempts to withdraw from or refuses to join a gang. This act also allows judges to impose stronger sentences and/or additional conditions on those convicted of gang-related offenses.   Official Text and Analysis.
