I was under the impression that the term "veteran", as is used in determining a veterans preference for the purpose of public employment, implied that a person's participation in one of the military braches during a recognized theatre of conflict e.g. Iraq, Afganistan, Vietnam, Korea, etc would enable that person to claim a veteran's preference.
I served in the Army from 1985 through 1989 when there was no recognized theatre of conflict, and in my case, am not able to get the veteran's preference.
Can I get clarification on this?
Thanks
