    2010 Senate Bill 6874 (Providing funding for the basic health plan by increasing the taxes on specified tobacco products and facilitating the funding within the state expenditure limit)

    Introduced in the Senate on February 24, 2010, increases the tax on cigarettes by $1 to a total of $3.025 per pack and adds $1.825 per pack to promotions such as buy one pack get one free

    The vote was 29 in favor, 19 opposed and 1 not voting

     They are going to get their cigarette tax increase come hell or high water.

    At the same time, they want to increase people's consumption of alcohol by spending over $4,500,000 to open 5 new liquor stores and 10 contract stores as well as allow beer and wine tasting in grocery stores.

    Smokers do not kill other people as drunks do.

    Smokers do not utilize our police, jails and court systems-taxpayer funded enterprises-like drunks do.

    They are basically hurting low-income people who are the majority of smokers by raising the price of cigarettes.

    Maybe they want smokers to become drunks instead. It sure sounds like it to me.
