It didn't pass the House, it passed out of committee (House Judiciary).  There is some question about whether it needs a 60% vote in the House.

And it wasn't filed on 1/12/2009, it was prefiled before the session started -- on 12/30.  This is a rehash of last year's HB 3148 (with modifications), which died in House Rules.

There should be a higher level for a non-citizen to recieve a carry permit than for a citizen. If caught the penalty must be greater too.

no person other than an American citizen should have firearms. Illegals found with firearms should be automatically deported. They should be deported anyway since that is the law.

It seems to me that most people are ignorant to the fact that this bill is not making it easier for illegals to obtain any firearms.  It is allowing those who are Permanent Residents (which means they are likely trying to gain citizenship) to simply possess a firearm. It is currently a felony (only in washington state) to even hold one.  Legal Aliens (Permanent Residents) have been through a more extensive background check than most US citizens will ever go through in their lifetime, I think it's already difficult enough for them to obtain the right to bear arms.

Also, this law will allow tourists from other countries to pay the extremely high out-of-state fees to go hunting in our abundant state which provides a big source of revenue for the state and conservation efforts.  It is unconstitutional for a state to impose on the rights of those seeking to obtain citizenship through the expensive, legal process of naturalization, just as it would be for any state to impose on the rights of any US citizen.

This bill has nothing to do with giving illegal aliens the right, or even opportunity to possess a weapon.  It is still a felony for them, but what it does do is allow permanent residents to use the rights given them in the US Constitution taken away by a stupid law, created out of racial prejudice during WWII.
