After paying for 8 years of high priced disability premiums my wife has made her first claim. Diagnosed and confirmed by UW neuro experts as MS with memory and life skill loss, she can no longer prepare a meal, forgets where her children are, often does not remember which day, month, or season it is. She made a claim with Bankers Life for reimbursement of home care assistance covered under the policy. Bankers sent a nurse to conduct an assesment during which my wife did not know the day, month, that her 16 year old had just had her birthday the day before, etc. Bankers denied the claim stating that she showed no evidence of disability. The insurance industry fears bills like this because it holds them accountable for their actions. Denial of coverage is a business model that insurance companies have used succesfully for years and this bill will encourage them to clearly define their polices, terms, conditions, and hold them accountable for unfair denials and business practices.
