Why ? what makes a snowmobile any different than a Quad ? or a jeep ? Is this so you can race through the woods scaring deer and doing "jump" shots ?

I'm not a snowmobile owner but I can tell you that snowmobiles can go into snow country that quads and jeeps cannot.  As for your "jumpshot" comment...  That just shows how unknowledgable you are to hunting, snowmobiles, and the back country.

Not to mention that I'm sure there is an unwritten agreement between hunters using snowmobiles and the game wardens that already allow this, you might as well make it legal.  And don't worry about your "jumpshots," and as for protecting the deer, I'm sure you'll want a nice clean death for deer that hunting provides rather than a slow-lingering-painful death that starvation and predators will provide.

I am a Master Hunter, A Hunter Ed Instructor and a Bow Hunter Ed Instructor and my question still stands, what makes a snowmobile any different ? WHY does a snowmobiler need the advantage ?  I asked the bill sponsor for clarification, if the intent was to authorize the side arm, I'm all for it, if the intent was for the long gun to be loaded---why does the snomobiler need that  ? Quads and bikes do go there too, just different times.

     Think the question through

Looks to me like this removes a stupid provision in an otherwise good law. I don't see why you should lose rights for snowmobiling. I don't snowmobile but as a CPL holder I carry a loaded weapon everywhere I go. I would like to try it sometime though.

Back to the question --why not ALSO quads , motorcycles, tote goats etc.etc. It has not yet been clarified if this is intended to just mean the sidearms or if the rifles are included. As CCP, you can carry the sidearm anyway, so the law would apply only to non CCP on a motorized vehicle.  Again, if the sidearm is the topic, great, the question revolves around the rifles, why single out snowmobile ? what is the unique charateristic that set that particular mode apart enough to have a separate bill to accomodate

Re: 2011 House Bill 1400 (Permitting the lawful carry of firearms on snowmobiles)

I contacted Rep Ross office on this issue as it should have never made it to the books to begin with.

It conflicts with RCW 9.41.290 State Premeption and RCW 9.41.300 Places Off Limits.

With a CPL one can carry a loaded pistol or revolver in or upon any vehicle in Washington State for Self Defense (not for hunting) as there are many who do snowmobile in the State and I will bet many are in violation of this obscure law as it is listed in the RCW for vehicles not firearms where it should have been if it was going to happen.

Even the Department of Fish and Game noted in thier hunting regs restricting firearms while archery hunting it is legal to have a loaded handgun for self defense and not for hunting or a mercy killing.

This is about a right provided to us through our own Washington State Constutuion Article 1 SECTION 24 RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.

Support the passage of this bill.

And, pray tell what is a Master hunter?

My answer still stands.  You have obviously never been in snow, traveled in snow, and probably never even seen snow.

     Think the question through

It is not for the hunter on a snowmobile to have a loaded rifle but their loaded defensive weapon, the standard hunting rules and regs still apply as for anyother vehicle.

Exactly you hit the nail on the head, as one can go about hunting on any vehicle with a loaded pistol for self defense, not for hunting as a rifle or authorized pistol for hunting must be unloaded.

In this age of more gun regulation, one welcomes a law that supports carrying of guns no matter where.
