2010 Senate Bill 6345 (Making the use of cell phones while driving a primary offense )

Introduced in the Senate on January 12, 2010, to provide that he holder of an instruction permit or an intermediate license may not use a cell phone or other wireless communication device while driving a motor vehicle. An exception is made if the wireless communication device is being used to report illegal activity, summon medical or other emergency help, or to prevent injury to a person or property. For all drivers, a violation of the laws relating to the use of a cell phone or other wireless communication devices while operating a moving motor vehicle may be enforced as a primary action

So how do we ticket cops that are doing this? I love LWEOs but on the usinf hands free headsets, it seems I see more cops violatring it than civilllians.

Our cops need to lead by example!

I have no problem with the Law Enformcment officers using the phone as long as it relates to public safety issues, but draw the line when it comes to personal phone calls.  But, how are you going to enforce that?

What I want to know is does this law apply to the legislature as well, or are they going to use they're "get out of jail" card if caught and the legislature is in session, or will they just try to bully the officer into not giving them a ticket?  It is the legislature that should lead by example rather than pass "feel-good" bills like this, that is called leadership.  Unfortunately there is no leadership in the state's legislature, only the elite ruling class that wants the rest of us to just "eat cake."

According to Senator Eide's way of thinking, we won't be safe until we have a police officer riding with each and every one of us.  Or we give them authority to pull us over for just about anything.

Could we get a primary offense law for women putting on their make-up?  How about people eating while driving?  Maybe singing too loud while driving.

A law that only a short time ago was introduced and passed as a secondary offense, with assurances that it wouldn't become just another excuse to harass innocent citizens or as a revenue enhancement tool.  Is there no end to the feel good legislation these people won't try to pass?

Can't wait for the emphasis patrols that officers will be forced to do.  They have much better things to focus on and pretty sure they would rather do those things than sit around watching for a cell phone user.

How about working of the priorities of government Senator Eide?  How about reigning in out of control spending habits?

Another unneedew law since we already have driving while distracted laws. Here we go just like the seat belt law, when the legislature figured they can make money they make it a primary offense.

On offense to cops but how do I give them a ticket for talking while driving. It seems Law Enforcement are the biggest offenders.

Does not anyone in legislature realize that this will hamper or shut down the productivity in thousands of businesses across the state that MUST HAVE these vital comunications  to cinduct daily business? Where are the studies that show everyone on a cell phone can not talk and drive at teh same time??
