The fool who introduced this legislation is copying California's draconian law regarding so-called "Assault weapons."  This is a typical knee-jerk response by liberals who are either totally ignorant or, more likely, desirous of disarming ordinary law-abiding citizens.

This bill if enacted into law, will have no effect on crime, but will make the liberals who support it feel better.  It must be defeated.

The senator is like most liberals, he does not know what an assault weapon is, last time I looked, it was not legal w/o proper forms and permission to own a weapon with a full auto sear option. All assault weapons I have dealt with in the military can be fired on full auto.

Re: 2010 Senate Bill 6396 (Banning the sale of assault weapons)

And what does this gun-phobic senator clam to be an assault weapon?  If he is considering a LAW, then well, yeah.  But if he is including any weapon that is scary looking...  How long will it be before the anti-gun crowd outlaw bows, for exactly the same reason they are stating they want to outlaw lead-throwing weapons.

It seems to me that everytime there is a shooting incident, those of us who own guns legally pay the price in new legislative minutia, while those that are living "beyond" and outside the law keep not only get a "pass" on legislation and hate, but also find their rights expanded by some liberal judge.  Is it any wonder why the cry of "liberalsim is a dangerous mental disorder" is being heard throughout the land?

Also, what part of the constitution doesn't our state senator(s) understand or what is he smoking at the time he reads it?  We are constitutionally enabled to own and keep fire arms for the sole purpose of hunting and self-protection.

As I keep saying, "vote the bat-rastards out"  vote those that not only have, but  use common sense in.

As outlined in an analysis in Examiner.com  of their editorial in the Everett Herald, State Senators Kohl-Welles and Kline do not understand the subject matter.

They have done an excellent job of parroting the misconceptions and misleading information of the gun banners, but their data is...just wrong.

This bill criminalizes the activities of honest people and requires virtually all gun owners to allow annual home searches by the Sherriff.

It is bad and probably unconstitutional legislation.

Its a sad state of affairs when our legislators really dont have a clue to what is going on.

So this bill is not just unconstitutional on 2nd ammendment grounds, but also violates the 4th ammendment as well, as section (5) opens up exisiting owners to storage inspections by the local sheriff.  So how does the sheriff know who owns them?  Well, it seems he will just have to inspect everyone, or will this backdoor a registration scheme?

Okay. so define assault weapons.  Are they scarey looking.  Do they hold more than five rounds?  How about LAWs?  They're not scarey looking and they only hold one round, seems like an unassault weapon.

As this gun hating democrat begins proposing anti-gun legislation, it makes you wonder who this law is trying to protect?  Certainly those that can legally own guns are for the most part responsible, and will abide by this law.  However, those that are not responsible, and hold the law in little respect anyways (as well as the druggies), will not.

So, it is my belief that this senator wants to protect the criminals and make it easier to for them to break into your house to rob you and who knows what else, without the possibility of you hurting the perp.  It is my belief that this senator's action speaks louder than any words he might speak...  It is my belief that this senator proves Liberalism is a very dangerous mental disorder.

For those that think weapons do not save lives I refer you to this story:  http://www.valleycentral.com/news/story.aspx?id=402271

If this .22 is an semi-auto, and holds more then five rounds, this too would be classified as an assault weapon.  Think about it.

    DK

    Vote these bat-rastards out!

Instead of common sense legislation they come up with this?  All this will serve to do is polarize the two differing sides, and nothing will change.  An individual who is intent on committing a crime does not care if the weapon in his possession is on a banned list!   Concentrate on enforcing the laws we have already… some fine officers would be alive today if not for screw-ups in the criminal justice system, a Governor who got happy with his pardon pen, and plea bargaining.  The only thing this legislation will change is who sits in Olympia… Use your right to VOTE!

The Washington Constitution is very clear on our right to bear arms.....much more so than the Federal Constitution. It negates the argument that the 2nd amendment only applies to militia's. It states the right is  absolutely an individual right. How Adam Kline can totally ignore our great Washington Constitution, only shows what a small little man he really is. Unfortunately, He is the typical democrat political hack....his oath of office means nothing to him. You would think where democrats are in huge trouble Nation wide, he would not introduce legistation to make democrats even more unpopular!  Obviously, a very slow learner.

That is exactly the problem. The Democrats in both Washington's pretend there is no such thing as the Constitution. They believe they have the right to dictate to us all what we may have,  what we can and cannot do, and how we must think.

These jerks are beyond the pale.

I'd suggest anyone who does not already own a gun, purchase one or more very, very soon because with the Democrats in control, they will ban them.

You guys need  fifty round clips to shoot deer?  Maybe spend the money on some markmenship lessons..if you guys have that bad of aim..you shouldn't use public restrooms.

Besides get handle about what the Democrats do and have done regarding gun laws....NRA gave John Kerry a B rating..why

because he voted  on bill that would have increased prison time for felons who use guns. Apparently the NRA wishes to protect felon gun rights.

also below is some strangness your buddy Matt SHea is thinking of....think the Spokane Sherrif's would endorse him again?

actually what this could allow is the private manufacture of body armor piecing rounds. The type of ammo that makes police and sherriffs dept kinda nervous. COnsidering  we've had  5-6 police shot in the last six months..do we really want more potent ammo on the streets of Washington?  Does anyone other that police need this ammo?  I've seen very few ( none) deer wearing body armor in the woods. This bill is nothing more that a way to place our law enforcement officers in even greater risk than they all ready are .

.By the way it was a Democrat from Montana who modified the way the military buys ammo to help ease the brass shortage, which in turn aided gun owners. Doesn't sound like the Democrats wish to ban or restrict firearms, but rather  make it easier for the responsible gun owners, to  do thier  own reloading easier and cheaper. Also I have yet to see any bill in either house of Congress from the Dems regarding ANY type of gun control..However that type of baseless fiction, does help gun shops and ammo dealers sell more product

but hey keep feeding the paranoia....and keep those gun & ammo  sales up....you can always tell the truth some other time.

Check the record on gun control by the likes of Chuck Schumer, Dianne Feinstein, Lauterberg, Boxer, Patty Murray, and a lot fo other Dems in Congress, let alone Obama.  If they thought they wouldn't spark a revolution by passing gun control, they would do it in a heartbeat.

How can anyone thing that an increase in prison time for felons who uses guns wants to protect felon gun rights?  But, if you follow that line of reasoning how about the queens wishes to give full voting rights to felons?  I guess she isn't looking for the "law and order" vote.

No, I need the fifty round clip to empty into anyone who breaks into my house.

And until the the legislature actually defines an assault weapon as one that is fully automatic then, yes, I will keep voting the bill down.  Scarey looking doesn't make it an assault weapon.  If that were the case, when are they going to start outlawing knives?  How many people do you know legally own legitimate assault weapons?  How many people do you know legally own "scarey" looking knives.  I would bet there are more knive owners then assault weapon owners.

So you know what is next.

By the way, don't you think the energy and time spent on the unconstituional law would be better spent cutting the state's budget and useless departments?

Just another feel good, do nothing for crime only, hinder the law abiding, piece of S...excuse me..legislation!

This would walk on the protections of the 4th amendments to the United States Constitution as well as trampling on the 2nd. And that is before we even get to the State Constitution!

It would place an additional burden and costs on already strapped Sheriff's Departments which would only further prevent them fighting ACTUAL crime.

It would increase the level of distrust of our Government and Law Enforcement Officers and could lead to unintended injury or harm to inoccent persons or even Law Officers.

Why won't the Dems, especially the ones from the Seattle/Puget Sound area work on laws that will actually help prevent crime and quit chipping away at our rights? It is bad enough that the voters in the area pretty much control what laws get passed in this state and now we have to worry about the Senators as well.

Of course the real quesiton is; how will this keep the bad guys from getting the weapons of choice and why is the legislature punishing those that follow the law rather than those that flagarantly disregard it?

Re: 2010 Senate Bill 6396 (Banning the sale of assault weapons)

Lets adress the real problem.  Guns or the type of gun is not the problem.  Criminals are the problem when it comes to firearm violence.  They come in the form of gangs, felons, etc.  Prosecute them, don't persecute gun owners.

The other problem is quite significant and that is the politicians and groups such as Cease Fire that believe they have the right to limit the rights of others.  Where does this come from you may ask?  These ideas come from out of state such as California.  Awhile back, 18 out of 20 people moving into Washington were from California.  I have lived in several other states that had Californians moving in.  They leave California for a better place, but when they get there, they try to assimilate the local area to be like their former home, California.

I propose that we ban people from California from moving into and gaining residency in this state.  In order to gain residency, they should have to go through a political re-indoctrination to erase all those misguided Californian ideas.  There is a reason many people don't live in California.  We don't like your laws, your ideas, or the society you created in California.  Please keep your laws and ideas to yourself.  If you don't like it in Washington right now, go back to California (or whatever misguided state you came from).

What I find interesting about this bill is that the very people supporting the bill, Washington Ceasefire,  appear to actually be pro guns and videos on their own website go against the very nature of this bill?

    Talk about an oxymoron.

Here is a YouTube video from Washington Ceasfire's own website showin that the ATF that basically says that this type of bill is virtually impossible to write.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysf8x477

I think if you are going to support a bill, you should have the common sense to exam what you are saying on your own website before you try and pass legislation that goes against what is placed on your website.

The real problem is that the general public sees a gun and they are afraid of it because what the news media is telling them. Guns have never loaded, aimed and shot a human being. It is the human who has taken the gun, loaded it, aimed it at someone, and pulled the trigger.

Plus now we are trying to add more duties for our already over taxed police force and add more case loads to an already bloated court system. In this day and age we need to reduce the amount of garbage that makes it to our courts and not add to the already river of senseless lawsuits.

The common public also does not understand the difference between an FULLY AUTOMATIC assualt rifle and a SEMI-AUTOMATIC sporting rifle. I watched the news yesterday and one idiot thought, "No One should own an automatic firearm." Sha you idiot.. No one does because they are already illegal.

The fact to the matter is more people are killed in traffic accidents than in firearm related incidents yet it's the assault rifles shown by the news when there is a gun related incident. News channels are so quick to report shootings with a huge image of an assualt rifle in the background, yet non-graffic images are used for accidents? I'm still puzzled why people think we need more gun laws. Look at Hati. Who was ruling the streets after the earthquake. Machette wielding thugs. Why? Because the regular citizens could not own guns which means they could not protect themselves.

If the legislator wants to pass laws to regulate something, they need to start passing bills to eliminate government waste. To be quite honest with you, show me one company who pays for ALL their departments heads to attend a quarterly weekend retreat at tax payer expense to stratagize on how to do things? Sounds like a weekend getaway to me.

Re: 2010 Senate Bill 6396 (Banning the sale of assault weapons)

Statistics has demonstrated over and over again the only true determent against violent crime is law abiding citizens owning and carring guns. Criminals by their nature are predators, thinking only of themselves, their wants and desires. It has been proved over and over again that criminals are far more likely to behave themselves in an armed society because they don't want to get shot. Most of these types of people don't respect kindness, they see it as a weekness to be exploited. The only thing they respect is strength.

Personally, I beleive the main reason many people want this bill past is because it is the first step in outlawing firearms ownership all together. I believe that their primary agenda isn't to detere crime but to impose their will and ideology on the citizens Washington State. Many people who think this way believe that human beings by their nature are incapable of making their own decisions and needs someone else who is quailified to tell them what to do, what to think, how to live, etc. they beleive that they fix all of societies problems by controling of society's thoughts, behaviors, etc. In conclusion, people who believe this ideology, believe that human beings are uncapable of being responsible thus should not be held responsible for their behaviors, just force them to live a certain way.

In conclusion, please vote no on this proposed bill and put a stop to the spread of this ideology.

Again, another feel good anti gun law that will be supported by criminals because they won't obey it but it will make things easier on them by reducing the chance that they will get shot while commiting a crime. Don't be fooled!

The people who introduced this bill are what I term the educated "Stupid." They are scholarly smart, yet stupid when it comes to common sense. I watched some of the debate yesterday and here you have a PhD (D standing for DUMB).. saying.. "my son was killed with a gun." She failed to mention if her son was engaged in gang activity, if the firearm used in the crime were stolen, etc. If her son was under 18 and shot by another kid under 18, there are already laws that say kids who are under 21 year olds cannot possess handguns.

I think this video from National Geographic explains exactly who has the FULLY automatic, and tactiacal assualt weapons. It's not the law bidding citizens of this state. It's the felons.

Isn't it ironique. We are facing a budget deficit and these educated, stupid people want to increase the number of court cases and add more responsibilites to an already over taxed police force. No wonder people are moving to Idaho, wyoming, texas and Montana.

There is an upside to Kline and others pushing this feeedon bashing legislation. I think their days are numbered. I predict Kline and those like him will be swept out the door during the next election. "Lets clean house" is being repeated everywhere.

Washingtonians are very weary of Seattleites, with their San Francisco far-left leadership mentality, trying to force their wishes on the rest of the state, which still retains a common sense approach to most issues.

Gun control does not work, plain and simple. Washington D.C. has the strictest gun control policies in the USA, yet their crime rate is always at the top of the major cities. When will lawmakers realize a gun is an inanimate object? The gun is not evil. 90,000,000 gun owners caused no harm to anyone yesterday. Yet lawmakers continue to try and pass 'feel-good' laws, which have no basis in reality.

The sponsors of this bill do not deserve discussion. They should be voted out of office, for they obviously have no respect for the Constitution.

The general public has no use or need for assault weapons - these should be restricted to law enforcement and the military only.  I've been around guns all of my life and I am a gun owner, but these things are ridiculous!

Frankly I have a hare time believing you own firearms. Assault style weapons are great for hunting as well as home defense. This is only the beginning of what Washington Cease Fire wants to do which is eventually ban all firearms from private ownership.

Look at history, every government that banned firearms ended up as a a radical government. Russia, Germany, Italy, China

None of these laws would have kept Cleminson from shooting cops, and none of the weapons specified were used by him.

This is just another feel good law from the left-wing.

If you truely knew your weapons, you would know that assault weapons (those that go fully automatic) are already illegal and ARE restrticted to Law Enforcement and Military.

IF you really want to do something, vote the bat-rastard out who don't know that.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

Randy, you hit the nail on the head when you said "they should be voted out of office, for they obviously have no respect for the Constitution".

Tragically, our elected representatives have been working for decades to tear down the Constitution little by little until nothing of it remains as it unambiguously denies the powers the federal government has usurped for itself and men and women lusting for power and control cannot have those dreams hindered.

    Hi DK,

Please provide a citation supporting your claim that it is illegal for a private citizen to own fully-automatic weapons.

    Thanks,
