You mean all the people that bit off more than they could chew with a subprime loan...then wow...rates adjust and can't afford it. Where is the personal accountablity in this?

    Senate Bill 6900

I find it hard to believe this will decrease emissions. I have a truck with a 6.8 liter engine that I basically parked over two years ago based on gas prices alone. Even though I don't use my truck more than about 1000 miles a year, I will still have to pay the $400. Is that fair? I wouldn't be putting out as much emissions per year as a 1.9 liter driving 15-20k a year and they wouldn't have to pay anything. Then you hear that the state isn't getting the money they need because people are not using as much fuel. So now, they want to raise our fees again. Where will it end? A few years from now, after people trade-in their high displacement vehicles for smaller ones, they will be saying the same thing. THEY NEED MORE MONEY! Well Senator, I need more money also. But I don't have the ability to tax anyone. Quit wasting the money you get, like the monorail project did, and start spending the money more responsibly!

All in all we have it pretty good.

While I think that this is a horrible idea and will be hard pressed to pass, Citizens of WA aren't taxed that much compared to other states. Look at California, after all that is where a large chunk of the current WA residents come from, the sales tax is a fraction of a percent lower than it is here PLUS there is a state income tax. No state tax here. Vehicle registration is easily 4 times higher than it is here and property taxes are much higher. I know that all of you untra conservative right wingers want to eliminate taxes and that's a great idea if you pony up the cash to repair the roads, keep the ferries running, keep the police and fire departments staffed. Get real people. Yes there is a lot of government waste and we are the only ones that can fix that by electing people with half a brain and a little common since. All in all we have it pretty good, but if a bill like this passes kiss all of that good by.

    Can STILL go through!

SB 6900 is still currently in the Senate Transportation Committee. It can be attached to the supplemental transportation budget as a source of revenue. Meaning, the measure is still alive. It was not subject to the February 12 cutoff for bills to get out of committee. Continue to write to your representatives and remind them of this fact if they tell you the bill is dead!

I also own an older SUV that only comes out when I need the 4wd. It's lucky if I put 250 miles on it per year. I pay lower insurance because of lack of use. Why should I be penalized just because of the engine size? It would make more sense to include the miles driven into the equation. Then you only pay for using a big engine, not for just owning one. Just like the bridge toll, you pay per size/axel, but only when you use it, not just because you own it. With that said, I'm still against changing what we voted on without another vote.

    Senate Bill 6900

This bill will ruin this economy. Those people unable to pay the hundreds to thousands of dollars to get their vehicle tabs will end up not able to use their vehicles to get to work to earn the money needed to pay for the tabs thus making them unable to work and lose their jobs, meanwhile those able to use public transportation will find the 'system' overwhelmed and unable to use the busses to get to work to pay for the tabs to get to work. People will end up not being able to work to pay for the vehicles they need to get to work to able to pay for the neccesities of this reagion.

    Taxed on Taxes.

I believe we have road taxes built into our gasoline prices. So now that tax on gasoline isn't enough? It is a usage tax so higher consumption vehicles are already paying their part. I agree it will be an economy killer as the dollar continues to fall our ability to purchase the same things as a year or two ago is becoming most costly. Pretty soon we will have nothing left over except to pay our taxes.

    Idiots at work again

What needs to be done is we need to vote (D) Rodney Tom out of office for even proposing a bill like this as this is the most ridiculus thing i've ever heard and if we the people don't act this idiot will run rough shod over the average tax payer. Maybe he should take more out of his rich Medina neighborhood and leave the rest of us alone. Tim Eyman you out there?
  • Thu, Feb 21 2008 7:21 PM In reply to

    learn to budget!

If the government would spend just 1/2 the amount of time trying to balance the budget and cut spending than what they do on trying to come up with bogus taxes on the most riduculous things, then we might actually get ahead someday with the amount of money that we already give to them. CUT THE EXCESS SPENDING, you morons!
  • Thu, Feb 21 2008 8:08 PM In reply to

    Size Does Not Matter

Sen. Rodney Tom must not be the most intelligent person in the world to believe that engine displacement = negative environmental impact. I can think of many larger displacement engines that average in the 20 mpg range with low emissions because of the environmental standards for vehicle emissions. Also with this bill you will see more business when possible changing their registration to other states that do not impose this tax. I can think of many other reason this bill is asinine but a final point would be punishing business that require these vehicles to operate their businesses.

    Gloval Warming

First of all, scientists or weather people can't predict the weather for the next few days accurately how on earth can 1 degree a century be documented especially when no two thermostats read the same thing.....if a cloud hovers over the thermometer at a certain time and not over another.....the temperature is going to change. All this global warming stuff is absurd. I agree with being greener though as far as being economical and trying to keep our emissions down but not because scientists say so. Taxing our vehicle engines is the most ridiculous thing. I still have a dirt road i live on. And i remember paying thousands a year for my tabs.....our roads on the Yakima side of the mountain don't get fixed with or without increases... Where is the money going, where did the money go. Elected democrats need to live within the budget they're given and stop welfare. You have to stay poor to get on welfare or be rich to pay all the taxes. Washington democrats are trying to get rid of the middle class. Sorry, but i had to vent...this is so ridiculous.
  • Thu, Feb 21 2008 8:49 PM In reply to

all in all we have it good

voting in an unreasoned unfair tax has nothing to do with how we have it. You and your logic are flawed. my primary mode of transport is a motorcycle, yet I have a big truck for the house that rarely gets driven. But what the heck California is screwing their residents so it is ok for Washington to screw theirs. Why don't you get real ...

    Re SB9600

Well then tax the gas not the engine size you retard. Having a car with a large engine does not mean you pollute more. Further more I don't plan to have children or grandchildren, so perhaps you should pay more tax for the additional carbon imprint you are generating with your wonderful little kids.

    Moving Soon

Now I know why all the other businesses are choosing Idaho over Washington. They can actually make some money over there without having it all taken away by thier over taxing Government. B&O tax, L&I tax, Unemployment tax, Vehicle weight tax, # of vehicles tax, on top of gas taxes and many others, and now this? I can't wait to see how much property taxes have gone up this year. Who can survive? Good bye Washington.
  • Thu, Feb 21 2008 10:32 PM In reply to

    sent to the senator

This bill is rediculous, taxing the working class, people in my field of work (construction), need heavy duty trucks to get the job done, I and a lot of others cannot afford a $400 a year on top of my registration, I already pay enough in gas. Why are you wasting your time taxing the people instead of fighting for lower costs, wouldn't that be a concept, this is a rediculous bill you should be removed from office for this crime against the public which you are supposed to represent.

    disgruntled citizen

no kidding i agree. we as citizens need to come up with some bills and get all these idiots out of office. there are way too many government officials anymore. what do they possibly do all day? they certainly get paid more then i do for a whole heck of a lot less. Do they listen to the citizens? not as much as they should! I truly believe that these positions that they hold as political figures should be an unpaid service to our country, they are rich already going in there just to get even richer while being there. If nothing else they should not be in office for their whole life. there should be a cap on all government positions but that is where corruption starts to creep in just like we see all over the place.

the global warming thing is a load of bull crap. Vote no on this stupid bill if they will let you. make sure you read through any bill that you can vote on all the way through and study it. make sure you study out the people that we are able to vote on into office, local, state and national. they all feed us a bunch of bull just to get into office. find out what they are really about by their past contributions or lack of.
  • Thu, Feb 21 2008 11:24 PM In reply to

    What is he thinking?

Maybe we should impose a tax on stupid ideas. We could impose a $200 tax for dreaming up a stupid idea, another $200 tax for talking about it, and then another $200 tax for putting your stupid idea in writing. Senator Tom, I believe you owe the state $600.00!

    Displacement?

This is ridiculous!!! My crappy 2.4 liter engine gets about 13 mpg. I also have a 7.0 liter that gets 10 mpg. Displacement has nothing to do with energy efficiency or emissions whatsoever. I could go out today and buy a bigger, better, newer truck than my crappy 2.4 liter and get over 20 mpg. Why punish those who have larger engines that have better fuel economy and are polluting LESS!!! Our legislators are making laws that affect all of us, and they have NO CLUE what they are doing! Let’s see if they can pass even the 7th grade WASL. If they can do that then MAYBE, I could listen to something they have to say… if they can pass the 10th grade WASL, we could reissue their diplomas to them… Get a clue!

I believe we voted in a maximum $30.00 license fee not too many years ago. YEA RIGHT!! These assholes we have in office don't give a damned about the people of this state, all they care about is linning their pockets with our money. I'm also quite sure that our illeagaly appointed Idiot of a Governor is a big part of this bill also. It's time to move out. Good ridons Washington.
