No smoking in cars with children.

I support this legislation. What a good idea. Too many times I have seen mothers or fathers smoking while children are locked in the car with them with no ventilation!

    Rights of Freedom? Where

I don't agree with individuals who smoke in small confined spaces without ventilation with their children, although it seems that the public is attacking smokers whereas they are being told where they can and can not have a cigarette if they so choose. I agree they should not be allowed to smoke anywhere they chose due to the health effects that can harm another, although they shouldn't be treated as if they have leprosy. Notification that smoking causes cancer has been established for quite some time so it is a known fact. Alcohol has also had the same strength of advertising, i.e. individuals can become addicted, abusive, lose their jobs, etc. which can and does effect children and family members more than simply smoking. Making restrictive laws whereas individuals do not have any rights or freedom at all will turn us into a communist country. I urge you to be cautious when discussing this Bill and not forget the rights of everyone, including the smokers.

    And it the future?

If you recall, seat belts were not a primary offense when that law was passed, either. This is most likely only the first step to making traffic cops the "cigarette police".

    Smokers have rights?

Since when? This is just another bill to demean them and take away any right left! I don't know ANY smoker that doesn't roll the window down no matter WHO is in the car! Keep it up all you idiots, if you want to really live in a nanny state!! America as it used to be is just about gone!

    Intrusion into civil liberties

As a Public Health Professional, I take exception to the position put forward by WSALPHO on the smoking ban and menu labeling. (Menu labeling (SB 6659/HB 3160, SB 6505, S-4493.2) No smoking with kids in the car (HB 2519/SB 6287) State DOH and WSALPHO have their own agenda based on shaky science and emotion. Neither of these bills accomplishes any measurable results to reduce either the rates and incidence of obesity or the ill affects of second hand smoke. This steps well beyond the realm of public health and directly into the personal lives and liberties of the citizens of Washington. These agencies and groups do not represent the entire field of public health professionals. This is yet another step towards a nanny state with further restrictions on the rights of the public in the name of public health and "saving the children." Please reject their agenda and stop these useless bills.

    Get informed!

The suggestion that second-hand smoke is deadly is the biggest fraud this country has EVER been lied to about! Where is everybodies common sense? Go to different places on the internet, and find out the truth, then maybe you will be ashamed you voted for I-901!!

    HB 2519 / SB 6287

Howdy :) I am against this Bill in the house and senate. If only because the facts, numbers and health risks being given in support of it are from tests done on parked cars with the windows rolled up. You can't even get through an entire cig before your eyes are watering, you can't breath and in some smaller cars even see out the windows through the smoke. Nobody, especially parents, sit in a parked, sealed car and hot-box kids with cigarettes. This is the same kind of unethical, immoral and doctored up science that the tobacco companies used to tell us smoking was safe in the first place. No one can look at these tests, use these results to support this Bill and expect any sort of credibility. STOP SELLING CIGARETTES !!!!!!!!!! That is the Bill we need to discuss
