    HB2248

What in the world are these legislators thinking about? Has anybody really researched this bill? This bill has already passed in the Senate and if it passes the house the impact will eventually affect so much. The aggregate companies that will be affected by this bill will be driven further out into rural areas and then the gravel they supply to projects will all have to be trucked in. That is so hypocritical ... More trucks on the road results in more pollution, greater use of fossil fuels, higher public works project costs, and the need to build more expensive highways. Do some research and see why this proposal is even being considered this session. Now you know why it costs $4 billion to replace the alaskan way viaduct... There are so many stupid decisions like this that have started to accumulate over the past 20 years. We no longer have a democracy in WA but rather a 1 party system that the results from the bad legislation over past 20 years we are going to pay dearly for from our pocket books. I sure hope this bill gets stopped before we all are paying BIG BUCKS for the mistakes of a few.

    Please support Puget Sound

This bill will help ensure protection of the Puget Sound. Further, it will not allow the exploitation of OUR natural resources by a large international Japanese company. True the establishment of the largest strip mine in North America may provide some gravel to the region but the environmental impacts and costs will be staggering. Further, the true economic benefits will only show up as profits in a foreign company’s P/L. We cannot continue to be short sited and continue to destroy the environment for what may be perceived by some, particularly Taiheiyo Cement Glacier’s parent company, as a short term gain. At some point we must take a stand and realize that once we allow these shorelines to be destroyed they will never come back again. This is why we have established laws to protect the greater good.
