Wow! This just makes sense. Why do we teach kids only about driving when they are 16? This is the moment at which their attitudes and decisions make the most impact... highest fatality rates, longest future of being a polluter... I hope this moves forward!

Well, we're talking about *Driver's Ed* here aren't we? Is it so strange to think it should focus on driving skills? Next maybe we can teach French in German class, or masonry in wood shop. :-)

    Why stop there?

I think that we should also include, in Driver's ED: Free Market training and how to balance a check book, invest in mutual funds for retierment, a home etc. We should also include information about how we are a Capitolist nation and that our consumer chioces decide what is avilable in the market place. We might also consider a couple weeks on personal responsibility and how we should live with our chioces, like not having kids until we can finacially afford them. Maybe for this program, the legislature should take a $100 million from the regular education budget (where this should be taught anyway!). Libertarian Larry

    Inmates Oversight'ing the Asylum

"...an oversight committee includes representatives of bicycle, pedestrian, and transit groups." What in gawdzname is a "pedestrian group?" These euphamisms sound like code speak for "people who hate cars." Many urban bicyclists are already a menace - now they'll be preaching to protodrivers that their behavior is virtuous rather than arrogant.

    Rant 101

This is like WWU's parking committee... not a single member drives, they all ride their bikes... your'll never guess the outcomes...
