    More worthless legislation

What's next, locking up knives? This was the end result in Europe; do you want it here too? Any attorney would love to see legislation like this; it’s a real moneymaker. You CAN NOT legislate intellect any more than you can prevent crime by passing more and more useless legislation. There are so many laws on the books now that any law enforcement agency could detain you or cost you your life’s savings defending yourself, for what? NOTHING!

    Standard Moeller Hypocrisy

Jim Moeller is well known for his double speak and hypocrisy when it comes to his view of firearms ownership. This is just another obvious attempt to chip away at our constitutional protections; this time under the guise of child protection. While having the temerity to say he fully supports the Constitution of the State of Washington and the Constitution of the United States, both of which clearly use the words impaired and infringed respectively, Moeller has avidly pursued and signed onto almost every major and minor piece of gun control legislation to spew forth from the Washington State House and Senate gun control minions as well as sponsoring a few himself. Moeller has even written constituents who have questioned him on his stance on firearms legislation and stated that even while he owns a few guns himself, he fully supports *reasonable* controls and restrictions (read that Infringements and Impairments). His view became crystal clear in his responses to constituents who challenged his thought process on the *so called* assault weapon ban that was so rightfully rejected last year. In these responses, Moeller stated “The only reason a person would want to own an assault weapon is for clearly illegal activities.” I’m sure past and more recent marksmanship champions, both state and national, would be happy to hear THAT. I’m also sure there are thousands upon thousands of hunters and other law abiding sportsmen who are happy to know that they are conspiring for illegal activities simply because of aesthetics. Make no doubt about it; Jim Moeller is an enemy of gun owners everywhere. Need more evidence of his hypocrisy? Just read the title of his proposed bill: “Encouraging safe storage of firearms”. The definition of *Encouraging* is a far cry from the words *MANDATING or CRIMINALIZING* But Moeller probably sleeps better knowing his bill will at least be more *pleasing* (if not downright misleading)to his fellow representatives.

    Very bad piece of legislation

This legislation is both unenforceable and needless. Firearms dealers are already mandated to give the purchaser of a firearm a trigger or action lock for free (manufacturers are required to include them with new firearms and the federally licensed retailers must include one with used firearms). If one were to attempt to look at the effect that similar legislation with similar intentions has had in other states, it would be futile, since there have been no effect to any measurable statistic in regards to firearm theft in general or the accidental discharge of a firearm by a child. If legislators truly want to “keep kids safe from firearms” they should try to control what criminals do outside my home, not what I do inside.

    Idiots

My sister just moved to WA, with her first firearm, after graduating from college. You are attempting to reduce her ability to protect herself. "Safe Kids Act:" what a bunch of typical liberal wordsmithing. Perish the thought someone rightly votes against this bill, and against the "chiiiillldren."

    Rediculous!

I question the intelligence of the person that authored this legislation. They obviously are out of touch with the real world.

    ads by google

I got a kick reading all the ads by Google for guns and such on this web page when reading others opinions . Somehow this legislation appears to be well intentioned but just a bunch of hot air .

    No more unseless laws

We do not need more laws and ways to fine and throw people in jail. How about spending your time reviewing all of the existing laws and repealing over 50% of them?

We need safe storage of leftist politicians

How about safe storage of the homosexuals who seek to recruit and indoctrinate our children?

    Opposition

I oppose this bill. It is unnecessary and intrusive into the personal lives of law-abiding citizens.

The reson we have the "Second Amendment"

States with the largest increase in gun ownership also have the largest decrease in violent crime, especially in high crime urban areas and neighborhoods where minorities are allowed to carry concealed handguns.

    this conflicts with existing legislation

Specifically, RCW 9.41.042 and RCW 9A.16.020 which allow a child to access a gun for the lawful use of force, for example to defend themselves in their home. Also, when is the legislation to ban access to automobiles going to come out? How about some funding for law enforcement of existing laws and keeping actual criminals in jail, rather than making criminals out of normal people?

    moosefire

Maybe we need to lock up knives, baseball bats, matches, cigarette lighters, household cleaners and pesticides. If we simply prevent access to everything, we will all be perfectly safe. Our children will all live to be 90 years old. This is a situation where idiots make the rules and common sense and good safety (firearms or other) education cease to exist.

    Ridiculous

Safe storage...safe for whom? Yet another ridiculous bill with the good intentions they always have. If someone abides by the bill's storage safety, they may as well kiss successful defense of home and family goodbye. The criminal's gun won't be locked up.
