Legislature expected to vote today on HB 1086

Today, the House is expected to vote on HB 1086, the supplemental budget for the 2009-11 biennium.  Lawmakers are considering additional cuts that would help close the state's current budget deficit.  Several amendments will be debated on the floor prior to final passage.  Where would you cut to help reduce the state's deficit?

If this passes with the section giving the Transportation Commission the authority to determine ferry rates, tolls and highway fees, once again our lawmakers are slapping the voters in the face.

Initiative 1053, overwhelmingly passed by the voters last November, requires any new or increased FEE to be voted on by the legislature or the people - which does NOT give a Commission the authority to do so.

Lainie59 - The portion related to the Transportation Commission was stripped from the bill with an amendment.

This is not getting the job done. They are legislating as a full time legislature when they are only part time. We need a budget for two years, not two months. I find this disappointing but not surprising.

Website Director: I'm glad the portion related to the Transportation Commission was stripped but let's see if it is reintroduced when it goes to the Senate.
