Legislature considers bill to suspend 2/3 tax requirement

SB 6843, which would eliminate the 2/3 vote requirement to increase taxes, was introduced today in the Senate.  In addition to removing the 2/3 requirement, SB 6843 would also eleminate the requirement for the state to provide the 10 year fiscal impact statement and other provisions adopted through I-960, as approved by statewide voters.  Is this a good idea?

This is absolutely NOT a good idea.  They need to let the voters decide if they want this repealed and we will say ?NO".  They need to find ways to cut the unnecessary spending that runs rampant in government jobs.

No more of this "The people are stupid and don't understand the consequences". We understand and will no longer be the "Silent Majority".  It is time for us to stand up and speak out against this.

And why would they do this unless they are planning on raising taxes, this was the only measure keeping the legislature from increasing taxes at their whim.

Cut the budget, not our rights!  Vote the bat-rastards out!

This bill is a slap in the face of the voters who have said, "No!" at least three times to the elected who mistakenly consider themselves elite. After having sat in the room throughout the whole hearing, I now wished I'd testified to tell the Senators that they aren't really aware of just how bloated the administration of K-12 public education is today. IMHO if they went through just the major districts on the western side of this state and analyzed the quantity of non-teaching vs. teaching positions there are in those districts, they'd find enough to cut & save plenty! I know, I just finished my career in that bloated bureaucracy and am glad I'm out!

Please write your senator and let them know you won't stand for this.  I for one made it clear - you vote of SB 6843 and next election I vote for your opponent.

This is very bad, they need to put it back in front of the voters.  This could have severe conseques for those voting for it come election time.

This bill is an incredible slap in the face of the citizens of Washington.  How arrogant of these legislators.  Since our voice carries no value in Olympia, it is time to cement tax increase controls into the States Constitution.

How about a constitutional amendment to require 75% of the legislators to vote for a tax increase and include the provision that the legislature is not capable of amending that document?  Maybe then they will finally understand who they work for.
