Should the State increase taxes to close the budget gap?

As the legislature draws to a close several key questions still remain, for instance, should the legislature raise taxes to close the budget gap?  Here are at least four tax proposals that are being kicked around in Olympia: HB 2377 - a sales tax increase to support health care; SB 6147 - creating a state income tax; HB 2351 - enhancing a 911 emergency communications system; HB 2350 - taxation of tangible property (investments).  So, do you support these proposed tax increases?  Let us know what you think!

No,No,No,No, on all four proposals.  All this would do is encourage them to spend more, make plans to spend more, promise to spend more to voting groups, etc,.  They need to completely revisit the role of government in society.  Personal wants, needs and desires are not public obligations.

The only propositions the legislature ought to be considering are those that permanently end bloated, wasteful, corrupt, and useless programs, positions, councils, study groups, and fraud.

NO to all proposals.  According to the Evergreen Freedom Foundation, the state "is expected to bring in as much money for the next budget as it will for the current budget."  Also, the projected $9 billion deficit will happen IF the state increases spending by 22.5%.  Cut spending - or at least don't INCREASE it - and we may survive.  Times are tough for everyone and our state needs to tighten their belts just like the rest of us.

I've never seen anyone spend their way to prosperity. Our state is way out of control and they need to be stopped before we all go down.

In my family, we have decreased spending by doing without some of the niceties we normally would enjoy.  We certainly aren't increasing spending.  Is there anyone in Olympia that has a fresh idea about fixing the "overspending" that has been occuring except to create new taxes & increase existing ones?  While I have been struggling to just keep up with inflation, WA state government has grown by 40% the last 4 years, I would contend that we should be able to cut government by 30% without much pain.

NO!  NO!  NO!  Raising taxes in the midst of a depression is the stupidest thing to do, taking money from people who are out of work and need it to survive (sounds like a democrat thought that one up).

Instead cut unnecessary offices like ORCCA, and the rest of Gregoire's pet projects she has to appease the great O and King Co.  Once that is done, instead of cutting salaries to people that actually contribute to society (the teachers), cut the salaries of those that don't (DOL, Legislatures, etc).  In other words cut the FAT before you raise the taxes and whine about needing a state income tax.

A leader is one that makes the tough and unpopular decisions, not one that cowtows to public opinion and the other DC.  For instance a real leader would not have lied about the budget during reelection and certainly would have turned down the social bribe er, bail-out.
