
2011 Senate Bill 5581: Creating a nursing home safety net assessment (Senate Roll Call)
Passed 27 to 17 in the Senate on May 11, 2011, to modify nursing home rate components to lower calculations produced within the payment methodology. Establishes a supplemental payment methodology to produce rates equal to those paid on June 30, 2010. Implements a direct care rate add-on paid to facilities that have experienced increases in client acuity since June 30, 2010.

The problem with Washington State nursing homes lies more with over regulation than underfunding. Allowing competition, rather than siphoning off dollars from other essential services would better serve the public.
I am urging all Legislatures to SUPPORT Senate Bill 5581.
We need to protect our most vulnerable residents, and jobs to caregivers.
We need to stop all these cuts NOW!
