I didn't ask the goverment for permission 28 years ago when I started smoking, and I haven't asked for their opinion as to wheather or not I should quit now.

If neer do well liberals are so hell bent on "saving us from ourselves", why aren't we over-taxing ice cream, doughnuts, and Twinkies? After all they COULD cause obesity. And while we're at it, how about greens fees because walking around a golf course in the sun all day COULD give you skin cancer? So COULD going swimming, so let's tax chlorine, and tanning beds, and boats, and water skies, and fishing poles, and tennis rackets, and baseballs, and volley balls. Did you see the Bejing Olympics? Did you see the 25 and 30 year old volleyball players who looked like the were 40? Or how about Greyhound buses, school buses, dump trucks, garbage trucks, big rigs, and those street sweeper trucks? I know I just love the smell of diesel fumes. Or how about a tax on charcoal grills and all houses with fireplaces? And maybe they should tax Boyscout and Girlscout dues? After all, they're going to start campfires and somebody MIGHT get a lung full of smoke. Theses are all very bad things that COULD cause cancer, and I need a government nanny to save me from them.

You see, it's not about some BS health care costs, or they'd be saving us from all of these other things. It's about a bloated government that thinks the constitution begins "We the politicians". It's about these same politicians, in a capitalist society [and for the time being , we are still capitalists], attempting to destroy an entire industry through obscene, and I believe illegal, taxation of a single product. Doesn't the tobacco industry employ workers? Don't liberals CLAIM to care about the working class? Don't get me wrong, conservatives have supported these tax increases too, and they should be out on their a$$es as well.

Think I'm crazy? Remember this?:

"if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted."
Barack Obama

Different industry, same M.O.

“Excessive taxation...will carry reason and reflection to every man's door, and particularly in the hour of election.”
Thomas Jefferson

"To preserve our independence, we must not let our politicians load us with perpetual debt. We must make our choice between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we can prevent the government from wasting the labours of the people under the pretense of caring for them, the people will be much happier.”
Thomas Jefferson

Don't forget about the ever dreaded automobile that emits more carbon dioxide than fifty cigarettes. Why don't we make the drivers of these gas bags pay for education and water pollution clean-up. Cigarettes and alcohol are the only things still made in the United States. What are we going to do if the tobacco industry goes broke? Is the Government going to bail them out ? I am personally tired of footing the bill for over 75% of the countries problems. If the Non-smokers want more money to fight any side-effects caused from cigarettes, let them pay for it. I smoke so I can keep myself mellow enough so I do not take my frustrations out on other people.
