2013 House Bill 1882: Reviewing sexual orientation change efforts for children
  1. Introduced by Rep. Marko Liias, (Mukilteo) (D) on February 14, 2013, directs the Department of Health to establish a work group to review and make recommendations on the practice of sexual orientation change efforts on persons under 18 years of age. The work group shall evaluate research relating to sexual orientation change efforts on persons who are under 18, identify the potential harms to clients that may occur through the practice of sexual orientation change efforts, and develop recommendations for approaches to protect young clients from potential harm related to receiving sexual orientation change efforts. This act directs the Department to contract with the Washington State Institute of Public Policy to conduct a review of the research related to sexual orientation change efforts and the potential harm that it poses to clients under 18.
