Introduced by Rep. Eileen Cody (D) on February 27, 2012, requires that offenders in the custody of the Department of Corrections pay an amount that is commensurate with their resources for health care. This act provides that the Department is authorized to act on behalf of an inmate for purposes of applying for Medicaid eligibility. This act allows the Department to contract with practitioners in mental health and chemical dependency. This act revises the law regarding hospital services to the Department and requires that, in order to be licensed, a hospital must contract with the Department of Corrections.

Amendment offered by Sen. Val Stevens, (R-Arlington) (R) on March 8, 2012, requires DOC to reimburse a provider of hospital services at the Medicaid reimbursement rate plus a percentage as determined in the operating budget. The amendment passed by voice vote in the Senate on March 8, 2012.
Signed by Gov. Christine Gregoire on March 30, 2012, requires providers of hospital services that are licensed with the Department of Health to contract with the Department of Corrections (DOC) for inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary services. Requires the DOC to use Provider One to pay outside hospital claims. Requires the DOC to reimburse hospital providers at no more than Medicaid rates plus a percentage increase that is determined in the operating budget for treatment of DOC offenders.

How are they supposed to handle everything? I new a guy once, he was an inmate and he was shaving with acne. He couldn't afford a cure for his problem. I felt so sorry for him and I tried to help him, I bought him the medicines he needed.

I have my healthcare degree now and I should be able to understand how this system works but apparently it makes no sense with every new decision.
