2009 House Bill 1278 (regarding contact procedures in the case of emergencies)

Introduced by Rep. Kirk Pearson, (R-Monroe) (R) on January 16, 2009, establishing a process for providing notice to a contact person in the event a person is injured and requires emergency care includes new provisions for contact information voluntarily offered to licensing agencies regarding who to contact when a person is in an emergency situation. Directs the licensing department to keep and maintain said data for access to law enforcement or emergency personnel in emergency situations.

I think it is sad that we actually need legislation just to be notified when our loved ones have been in an accident. It will be good to get this on the books so no one else will have to go through this nightmare again. To think that you'd hear about a loved one's situation by watching the news or getting a phone call from a friend of a friend... it just doesn't make sense. This should have been made law LONG ago!!! I applaud those involved for making it a reality.

HB 1278 is important legislation. Most of us do not know that notification does not happen, we assume that it does until a serious event happens and we discover that it does not. This bill would help untie the authorities hands. We need to have this bill in effect right away.
