Don't take the attacks personal. I tried to inject a little sense into this discussion a while back .

and got accused of living on the west side and being a democrat. Seems like unless you curse the governor you are labeled a west side demo.

Its obvious people don't think things thru much when ideas for lowering gas prices like boycotting a certain station or not buying on Thursdays or filling up when your tank is half full instead of empty are offered as serious strategies to "hurt" the oil companies.

I farm and I don't like the high gas and diesel prices either. Fertilizer has gone from $350 a ton to 650. Calling the governor names isn't going to fix that. Electing a different governor isn't going to fix that. Oil prices have been going up since the 70's, and none of the politicians since then have been able to control the oil prices.

A little less emotion and a little more constructive thought would benefit this sight a lot.

I anxiously await to hear your praise and accolades! Mike

The fuel prices in the 70's were .55 a gal. not 3.50 a gal. so where in the hell are you comming from ? And the idea of not buying from a certain oil co. for a whole week sure as hell WILL drop the prices. Do your math for christ sakes. And if it were'nt for that bitch we have as a governor we would at least be paying .15 a gal. less. So I really don't give a damned if you are a farmer of where the hell you live, you sure think like a west sidder.

Why don't you just make the roads that need repairs and upkeep into "toll roads" like they do in the East? It would make you a lot more friends and the way the economy is now, with almost a 20% increase in the first 2 months of 2008, Seniors only getting a 2% COLA, how are we to keep surviving?????? Forcing us to buy HDTV's and more things we can't afford, even medicines, Try thinking of some of us that are not as well off as you guys that have your wages, retirements, (if you were not foolish enough to believe the garbage bush handed out on his election crap), like do your own investing, etc. you are probably not too bad off.

well it seems that we got through to them on this issue and got it put in the garbage where it belongs.
Now then lets keep this bithing up, but lets move it on to these downright criminal fuel price increases. This is absolutly insane, and so are we for puting up with it.
These Fu-king oil companies and their C.E.O's are getting filthy rich at our expense. It's no different than if they were holding a gun to our heads and demanding our money. And what's really madening about it is the fact that they are laughing at us all the way to the bank, to their Yachts, to Hawian condo's, ect, ect, ect.
True this is a national problem , but it sure as hell hurts to know that Wash. is number one in high prices right now, and we can thank our sorry ass govenor for that with her 15 cent a gallon tax increase, on already overtaxed fuel. What a Bitch. 1.50 for Reg.. and 4.26 fo Diesel today. this is CRIMINAL !!!!!!!
All it would take to bring these oil companies to there knees is to pick one brand name, Say Shell, then no one patronise any Shell station for One week, and I mean nation wide. Then move on and boycot another, oh lets say Chevron, then Exon etc.etc. Just keep rotating one week at a time. They sure as hell would be sreaming uncle before very long. This would work! It would take a boycot callender to be posted on the net. nationwide somehow, and even if only half the people would follow by it they would be playing into our hands with pricing wars before very long. Can you even imagine how much it would cripple an oil company to loose a large portion of its national buisness for one week? OUCH!!!
It's time to pass the OUCH !!! on to them, make the bastards hurt, and hurt bad!!

People keep referring to the Govenor's gas tax. It isn't the Govenor's it's ours. The gas tax was voted on by the people and passed with a large majority. We were willing to tax ourselves for the benefit of our highways and bridges. Now that gas is off the wall, we blame it on the Govenor and the tree huggers. For you liberal's information, there is no global warming, it's all a bunch of proven crap. That B-TCH in Olympia just over rode our vote and inacted the damned tax anyway. Not only did she put that tax in illegally, but she also raised it from the proposed nine cents over three years to 15 cents over three years. She got that tax in just like she got in office, by a whole lot of crooked moves. That B-tch ain't my Governor, and come election time she's going to join the crowd at the unemployment line. Where do they think this extra money will come from? I personally haven't noticed any $20 shooting from my butt!! Don't let these few policial nightmares take power into their own hands - We need to tell them where to stick this bill. The government aren't helping with this gas problem. Complaints of barrels hitting $100 - it was that way in the 80's - yet it didn't go over $2 a gallon. Why is it hitting $4 a gallon? Why are the oil companies making the largest profits in the history of their companies? This is what our fearless leaders need to be working on.

And you're right, they need to start prosecuting these oil tycoons for racketteering. Beside our government officials, these are the crookedest bastards on the face of the earth, and should be prosecuted for letting these fuel prices get to this point. As a retired oil refinery crew foreman, I'm here to tell you with no uncertainty that there is NO oil shortage whatsoever in this country or anywhere else for that matter. We have delibertly held back production at the refinery to drive the prices up. while 12 to 14 oil tankers sat off shoe waiting to unload crude. I know because I was there and part of it. It pissed me off then when we did it , and it really pisses me off now. Make these bastards both at corperate and political levels pay for what they are doing to the American people. What you just wrote confirms what my nephew has been telling us for several years. He is a deck hand on an oil tanker, and has told us many times that they had to sit offshore for up to a month because they could not unload. The reason they could'nt is madening. Their tanks were full of refined crude and ready for delivery, but would not ship any out so as to create a false shortage, thus driving the prices up. This kind of corperate stronghold has to be punnished . Put a few of these oil company C.E.O's in prison for racketteering and maybe things would start to turn arround. Haveing a pair of oil tycoons in the White House does'nt help us one damned bit either.

Maybe they are under the impression that everyone brings in a fat paycheck like them, or Microsoft employees, or oil Co. execs, boeing employees, or whatever. WRONG, the majority of us are at 30- 40 thousand a year, and a lot more are retired baby boomers on S.S. and that's a hell of a lot less that any 30-40K a year. Just how the hell do they expect us to make it if they keep this bullshit up. I think most people would agree we should reduce dependency on foreign oil, and I don't hear many people suggesting we should raise taxes. The thing I think is unfair about either of these bills is that you are not being taxed for driving the vehicle, using the fuel, or creating the co2. You are being taxed for owning the vehicle. Whether you drive it 250 miles a year or 50,000, you are being penalized the same. I think the rising price of gas will encourage people to go to better fuel efficient vehicles but still allow them to own that old pickup they need to pull the boat or haul out the garbage.

To grow these crops and do our daily work, we ALL rely on our pick-up's , and I don't mean these sissy want to be, do no hard work so called pick-ups, I'm talking the real thing here. So deal with it, we need these trucks DAILY, ALL DAY LONG just so we can do what it takes to grow the crops to feed you greedy west side liberal bastards. These high license fees, and ridiculous fuel prices are nothing more than price gouging, especially when these big oil companies are showing 6 billion dollar proffit increases EVERY QUARTER, this is simply organized crime like it or not, and so are these two bills, 6900, and 6923.

Interesting how you pegged me as a west sider when in fact I work the farm north of Deer Park that my great grandpa bought back in the twenties. Maybe its because I wrote that I believed we should become independent from foreign oil. If you take a deep breath and re-read my post maybe you will see that the problem I have with both bills is that it doesn't punish you for using gas and creating pollution, it punishes you for owning a vehicle, even if you drive it very little. My 1968 two ton hay truck that gets driven under 250 miles a year already costs more to license that a new Prius, and with either of these bills it would go up a lot more, even though I will use less gas in a year than the Prius use to commute to work in.

The next time you hear a politician use the

word "billion" in a casual manner, think about

whether you want the "politicians" spending

YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,

but one advertising agency did a good job of

putting that figure into some perspective in

one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two
feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and
20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending
it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look
at
New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple
division . .

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the
Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild
New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of
New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you
each get $516,528.

B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets
$1,329,787.

C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family
gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D.C .. HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators

Why should I pay as much if I try to help our country driving a little 4 banger to work as the person driving the V-10 to get to the same place I'm going. On the flip side though this revenue should then offset some other govt auto fees instead of squandered away on more needless government bureaucratic indulgences.

Why can't our two sides meet somewhere in the middle where our country wins as a whole instead of this self defeating polarization, this prevailing senseless attitude of all or nothing? Politics is the "Art of compromise".

He said that only bills "necessary to implement the budget" are exempt from the Feb. 12th deadline, and that the transportation budget does not reference or rely upon this bill, so it's REALLY dead. He opposes the bill and says that every other Democrat he has talked to also opposes the bill. It's very obvious to me that a lot of people writing comments on this law don't have the foggiest idea about running a small business. You are the type who complains when we need to charge enough to make even a small profit, then think we should not complain when more and more taxes, fees and regulations are added on to our growing list of business expenses and restrictions. Small businesses are run by people who have the guts to step out and take a chance, not by greedy bureaucratic types or those who can't organize themselves enough to work on their own. Every year we are squeezed tighter for profits, but you simply are ignorant of the risks and frustrations we experience. Why don't you provide all the services small businesses provide to you and other citizens, then tell us why we should not try to stop more taxation and regulations. You really, really don't get it, do you? Water, food, shelter all come from other people's hard work. Grow up and get real!

As a resident of the East side of Washington, my husband and I, first and foremost, work hard at raising quality beef and lamb. If you dig into our pockets anymore, you will be stuck with corporate sludgeburgers! The small farm operators need large trucks to move these animals and to operate their farms. If you don't take care of the Ag Industry, you will not be able to get food in those stores you think it comes from! When we can no longer support ourselves and have to import EVERYTHING, where does that leave us?

Ok first we are given $30 fees but the Supreme Court fo WA overturns the vote, then the we told we will get a tax for gas that will benefit the roads (haven't seen any major road work). And now this crap! We have to stop this insane taxation and fees being placed on our hard earned money. I saw one of you write about the "big truck guys" and how they shouldn't complain! Why not? You chose to drive your little commuter car and tehy chose a truck. But you may be 100 lbs heavier then they ar ein body weight, does that mean we shoudl start to tax oyu more since your lungs are bigger and you breathe out more CO2 then the truck guy?

When does it stop people? When are we going to stand up to this BS coming out of Olympia and stop allowing these politicians to turn us into the United Socialist Washington Republic. I'm sure at least some of you actually need a truck that big, but the VAST majority of you definitely don't. I can't even tell you how many people I see driving these huge, pristine pick ups that obviously have never seen anything other than pavement. None of them need it, it's for these people that use these cars as a daily driver that the tax was created. By adding this bill as law, it would create further financial problems for struggling families who need their cars to get to work. I believe that for people who are already struggling financially without any assistance it would further aggravate their psychological wounds. If you look at traffic reports on how long it takes for people to get to Seattle, then the politicians need to understand that there's a reason why people move out of Seattle but still retain their jobs. Personally, I still live at home with my parents and siblings and I commute from Seattle/Renton to Bellevue four days a week just so I can still continue making monthly auto payments and to keep my car running. With gas prices continuing to increase and car tabs continuing to somehow go up, it seems that either some changes in taxes must be made or changes in Olympia need to be made.

They don't dare increase the gas tax because they can't show what they did with the last increase. So instead they need to invent a fee. Why can't they simply be honest and increase the gas tax and build more lanes like so many of us prefer? Is it so difficult to understand?

Instead they propose a transportation package to build rail and buy more buses for some exceptional amount of debt. Less than 5% of the population uses mass transit. What they proposed would increase that by 2 percentile at most.

Olympia needs to pull their heads out into the daylight and listen.

Fuel prices and the free market system will change our habits and lead us into smaller cars and engines. These politicians are again out of their realm.

Hello, I didn't see an introduction folder, but had to join when I saw so many who are in the know about the fascist movements being forced upon the Washington state people, not only us but the entire US.

This bogus global warming, green crap.
The Liberalists who pad thier pockets while enacting bills to take more from the general public, need to be taken out of their offices.

Now about the SB 6900 bill, this is an outright violation of my choice to chose the size vehicle I want to drive. They want to conform us to the European countries, where we all drive tiny cars or walk, use the bus. Their constant bleating over the short supply of gas is just pure bull, just a standard ploy they use to hike up gas prices and now they are reaching out for more control. They wanted their $3. a gallon, their next hike will be moving us up to $4., then $5. this will bring us in relation to the Euros. In fact I heard something about them wanting to replace the dollar with the Euro? Anyone know anything about this??

We can thank the Uniting of Nations and the trade agreement of which the US is a foreleader. For losses to the US economy but shipping jobs out to Mexico, China, ect. ect. Thanks to Canadian lumber imports at a retail cost lower that what the US mills can sell for.

My husband works at Portac in Forks, Wa, on the Olympic Peninsula. Portac has closed the doors of thier Tacoma plant.
Thank you liberalists for wanting to sell us up the river, then expect us to make you rich by increased taxes and around the corner tab costs ..
As you can see I am a mad wet hen...LOL

So anyone know for sure about the bill?
How can we combat this world globing farce, this is a powerful movement and the GPM (General Public Mentality) is eating it up?
Appreciate anyone's answers or comments on some of this stuff.

I have seen some comment that the SB6900 is dead, is it? Has anyone an e-mail from a person in government, the goulish mayor or other?

They care not a whit for the working man beyond what mileage ($$$$'s and Power) they can get out of out of their empty slogans. That and what mileage they are beginning to get of of the Man Made Global Warming scam.

People, find a real religion to worship. Dump these politically correct Stalinists who are trying (successfully, I might add) to get you to bow down and kiss their feet.

We voted in lower registration costs, then the Liberal courts threw out the initiative. Only a wise Governor got the Legislature to re-enact it. Then they voted in the weight surcharge for which no weight of car is exempt.

We voted down an initiative that would have added 9 cents a gallon gas tax, then the Legislature vote in a 15 cent a gallon increase.

96) What was the bill really needed for? [by Anonymous Citizen on February 24, 2008]
I am also disappointed in the bill. But, at the same time I am disappointed in the comments against the bill.

1. Yes, the bill is not realistic.
2. The bill should be thrown out.
3. What was the intent of the bill, really? Environmental, or Monetary?
4. Where are the comments with well-thought out ideas of how to solve the problem this bill was supposed to fix?

Pertaining to #3. A) Is the intent to leverage against the automobile makers to create better engines with less emissions and better gas mileage? Or ... B) Does the state need more money to create and fix the roads and highways?

A) If this is the case, a different bill should be in place to hit automobile makers, not the citizens.

B) If it is money, where is the money going and why does it cost so much. Since I understand the road construction is contracted out, how much do other states pay for their roads .... are we being taken by the companies that are contracted (if so, throw your hate against them, not the government ..... the government can only do only so well as the companies that are available to contract out to).

For those on the east side of the mountains, such as myself. I have noticed that a lot of people that live on the east side have idaho plates. I am guessing that it is to lower the costs, but when they do that it hurts all of us.

Furthermore, do we still have to have hate against groups of people? Several commented that these people were stupid democrats. Are they really stupid for the idea they came up with? - or - Were they not as smart coming up with an idea on how to find a solution to the problm with the help of the people of this state? Coming up with a solution as a team (the people in WA) makes it a lot easier to swallow when we know what the problem is and we all contribute to a solution to resolve it.

99) Tax Homes in Medina [by Anonymous Citizen on February 23, 2008]
I propose we introduce a yearly tax that is assessed at 20% of the value of homes in Meidna, Clyde Hill and Newport. That makes about as much sense as this proposal. As a diesel truck owner that drives my vehicle < 5000 miles per year (oh yeah I use the woefully inadequate transit system to commute daily) I feel this tax is crazy. The founding fathers during the construction of our democracy envisioned the process being carried forth by the best and brightest. I cringe when I hear this type of response to solve issues of this nature. If you need new roads, enact a toll on those who use them; eliminate studded tires(nobody drives here on the 1-2 snow days anyway) and build a transit system that works!!! As for the emission problem make all residents responsible to have their vehicles tested. Why can someone that lives in Duvall drive from there to Seattle and not be held accountable for emissions testing? Get a clue.. don't opt for the easy fix but rather fix the problem. Governing is about making the tough decisions oh by the way how many cylinders does your Mercedes have?

The bill has serveral sections including an emissions section effective 1/2112 and a totally open section 'yet to be determined'.

Currently this state already has one of the highest gas taxes and the bigger engined cars are paying their share.

We also charge by vehicle weight (snuck that one in they did)

And my three children, their careers, their family have all moved elsewhere - and when I retire it won't be in WA.

I'm from Utah - they had a state income and food tax, better government, better schools, yet I paid significantly less taxes/fees to live there compared to here...

I'm not kidding, this bill died before even being considered by those "elitist, commie-liberal, people-hating" politicians in Olympia. Maybe you all should start paying attention and tracking legisltion before you start posting hateful and ignorant comments and sending threatening messages to your legislators. THE BILL IS DEAD, IT DIED ON FEB. 6th. SB 6900 never even received attention from committee staff, that's how little attention was paid to this bill. It hasn't been passed and it will never be. Those liberal politicians, at least the vast majority of them, agree with you about the absurdity of the bill. Please inform yourselves before you start accusing innocent people of trying to rip you off. Thanks...

It's dead. You can find that out from going to the legislature's website or simply contacting your representative/senator. There is absolutely no money for this piece of legislation. I'm not quite sure you understand, there are more cut-offs than just the Feb. 12th one. On Feb. 19th there was another cut-off date. This cut-off was for moving bills out of their house of origin. Now, since SB 6900 never moved out of the Senate Transportation Committee, it obviously never came up for a vote before the full Senate, meaning that it never went to the House before Feb 19th. Therefore, it died. Since the cut-off for proposing new legislation was a very long long time ago as well, no new legislation regarding vehicle emissions fees can be proposed. SB 6900 is dead, really, really, really, dead. The issue is closed, at least until next session, but with such an unpopular reaction, there is no way it will ever be seriously considered. Oh, and it's spelled threat not "thret."

It's dead. That is how legislation works. It won't be brought up in the transportation committee, which is a finance committee, because they do not pull dead bills which didn't even receive attention in their original policy committee. AND, especially not in a short session like this one where everyone is focused on the budget. I'm telling you, it's dead from every angle, and believe me, I'm about as well informed as you can get, if you catch my drift...

Sen. Rodney Tom must not be the most intelligent person in the world to believe that engine displacement = negative environmental impact. I can think of many larger displacement engines that average in the 20 mpg range with low emissions because of the environmental standards for vehicle emissions. Also with this bill you will see more business when possible changing their registration to other states that do not impose this tax. I can think of many other reason this bill is asinine but a final point would be punishing business that require these vehicles to operate their businesses.

I find it hard to believe this will decrease emissions. I have a truck with a 6.8 liter engine that I basically parked over two years ago based on gas prices alone. Even though I don't use my truck more than about 1000 miles a year, I will still have to pay the $400. Is that fair? I wouldn't be putting out as much emissions per year as a 1.9 liter driving 15-20k a year and they wouldn't have to pay anything.
Then you hear that the state isn't getting the money they need because people are not using as much fuel. So now, they want to raise our fees again. Where will it end? A few years from now, after people trade-in their high displacement vehicles for smaller ones, they will be saying the same thing. THEY NEED MORE MONEY!
Well Senator, I need more money also. But I don't have the ability to tax anyone. Quit wasting the money you get, like the monorail project did, and start spending the money more responsibly!

I also own an older SUV that only comes out when I need the 4wd. It's lucky if I put 250 miles on it per year. I pay lower insurance because of lack of use. Why should I be penalized just because of the engine size? It would make more sense to include the miles driven into the equation. Then you only pay for using a big engine, not for just owning one. Just like the bridge toll, you pay per size/axel, but only when you use it, not just because you own it. With that said, I'm still against changing what we voted on without another vote.

It wasn't many years ago that we voted for a $30 annual renewal tax for our license tabs. Then they added a $3 filing tax. That wasn't so bad. This year for my 2001 Camry there is the license tax, the filing tax, the weight base tax, the license service tax, the replacement plate tax (I don't need a replacement!), a plate reflectorization tax, and if I want to keep my same plate there is an additional "retain current plate number" tax. The total? $87.75. That is nearly triple what I voted for. Why didn't I get to vote on these increases? Why don't our politicians listen to us? Are we just the stupid citizens that don't really know what is good for us? If they ne
