Introduced by Rep. Jeff Morris, (D-Mt. Vernon) (D) on January 10, 2007, to declare an intent of the Legislature to create a “Center of Excellence” known as the “Washington Institute for Technology. The purpose of the institute would be to increase graduate degrees in the areas of engineering, technology, biotechnology, science, computer science, and mathematics. The institute would operate through combined efforts of three university branch campuses: UW-Bothell, WSU-Tri-Cities, and WSU-Vancouver.
