2006 Senate Bill 6487: Prohibiting false academic credentials
Introduced by Sen. Mark Schoesler (Ritzville) (R) on January 13, 2006
To prohibit the granting or awarding of false academic credential or offering to grant or award a false academic credential.   Official Text and Analysis.
Referred to the Senate Early Learning, K-12 and Higher Education Committee on January 13, 2006
Substitute offered to the Senate Early Learning, K-12 and Higher Education Committee on February 2, 2006
To remove the repeal of the current law requiring the HECB to authorize degree-granting institutions and the sanction for operating a nonauthorized institution from the bill. The definition of "false academic credential" is changed, so that institutions of higher education that are currently authorized by the HECB or those who are currently exempt from that authorization can continue to operate in Washington. Graduates of a legitimate foreign school may use their degree(s) in the state. The definition includes academic certificates in addition to associate degrees and higher levels of degrees.
Amendment offered by Sen. Mark Schoesler (Ritzville) (R) on February 10, 2006
To remove foreign degree-granting institutions from the bill. S AMD 70.
