Introduced by Rep. Dawn Morrell, (D-Puyallup) (D) on January 15, 2007, to establish a “Voluntary Adult Family Home Certification” program through the Department of Social and Health Services. Program participants would be required to complete a 52-hour course developed by the department. Course subjects would include age-related mental health conditions, health promotion programs, preventing falls, addressing health issues of aging families, and health concerns facing ethnic older adults with developmental disabilities.

Substitute offered to the House Health Care and Wellness Committee on February 5, 2007, to allow adult family homes to participate in a voluntary adult family home certification program through the University of Washington geriatric education center. In addition to the minimum qualifications, individuals participating in the program shall complete fifty-two hours of class requirements as established by the department.
